The garden had been spoiled with mulch and in combination with the humid climate and lack of sun it had become notorious for its overpopulation of snails. I read that in snail mucin, which is the secretion from snails, a natural growth factor is found that improves wound healing as it acts like a natural moisturiser. Snails produce mucin to move, out of stress and for pleasure. Gardeners tend to disapprove of snails and I had been told that it was impossible to grow anything because of them, so I also subscribed to the termination beliefs of snails, and decided to introduce five so called ‘Indian Runner Ducks’ to do the “job”. The ducks were refugees from Wim’s farm where they had been hunted by a fox.
